Istanbul, Porto and Helsinki once again lead Europe’s airport rankings for 2026, according to a new analysis by holiday-home platform Holidu. The company evaluated Google Maps reviews of the continent’s busiest airports, producing a league table that shows stability at the top — and notable movement in the midfield.

    Istanbul Remains Europe’s Top Airport

Istanbul Airport holds its number‑one position, earning 4.4 stars from more than 110,000 reviews. Travellers praise its cleanliness, clear wayfinding, and wide range of dining options. Automated passport controls and efficient security procedures help maintain smooth operations despite handling nearly 64 million passengers annually.

    Porto Again in Second Place

Porto’s Sá Carneiro Airport ranks second, also with 4.4 stars (33,878 reviews). Its compact layout, short walking distances and modern self‑service kiosks make it a favourite among travellers. Reviewers highlight the clear signage, fast security checks, and easy metro connection to the city centre — proof that comfort doesn’t require mega‑infrastructure.

    🇫🇮 Helsinki Holds Third Place

Helsinki Airport secures third place, likewise with 4.4 stars (20,156 reviews). With check‑in, security and arrivals located under one roof, orientation is simple. Passengers appreciate the calm atmosphere, advanced scanner technology, and Nordic design, which together create a notably pleasant travel experience.

    How Vienna-Schwechat Performs

Vienna-Schwechat Airport remains 13th in Europe, holding a strong 4.2‑star rating based on more than 50,000 reviews. This places Vienna comfortably within the continent’s top 15, well ahead of major hubs such as Amsterdam (39th), Frankfurt (46th) and Berlin (79th).

Travellers typically praise Vienna for its efficient operations, solid infrastructure, and reliable services, even if it doesn’t reach the top-tier ratings of Europe’s leading airports.

    Biggest Climbers and Fallers

    • Dublin is the largest climber, jumping eight places to 22nd, entering the top 25.
    • Palma de Mallorca is the biggest faller, dropping six places to 21st.
    • Barcelona and Brussels each fall nine places, landing at 30th and 40th respectively.

    Europe’s Worst Airports

Heraklion Airport in Crete is once again rated Europe’s worst airport — for the fifth consecutive year. With 2.6 stars from 28,458 reviews, travellers consistently criticise overcrowding, lack of seating, poor air‑conditioning, and confusing signage. Many describe it as “too small for the rising passenger numbers.”

The long‑planned move to the new Kastelli Airport continues to face delays.
